A maximum of 2 modules can be used with S7-222, with a maximum of 78 I/O, up to 7 modules may be used with S7-224 and S7-226 CPUs, with a maximum of 128 I/O 248 respectively. The modules are available in 24Vdc or 85-245Vac powered versions, and include digital input, output, and combined forms, plus analog input, output, and temperature sensor modules.

In addition to digital signals, the S7-200 series can process analog signals from sensors or actuators directly by using an analog expansion module.
